World Indigenous Day ?

Indigenous" refers to groups of people who have a long-standing connection with a particular territory, culture, and traditions that predate the arrival of colonialism and modern state systems. These groups are also known as "First Peoples," "Aboriginal," "Native," or "Tribal" communities in various regions across the world.

The term "World Indigenous" can be used to refer to these communities collectively, highlighting the fact that there are Indigenous peoples in many different parts of the world who share a common history of colonization and ongoing challenges to their survival, rights, and cultures.

The United Nations estimates that there are approximately 476 million Indigenous peoples in the world, belonging to over 5,000 distinct cultures and speaking more than 4,000 languages. Indigenous peoples face a range of challenges, including loss of land and resources, discrimination, poverty, and lack of access to basic services such as healthcare and education.

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of respecting the rights of Indigenous peoples and engaging in meaningful partnerships with them to promote their well-being and sustainable development. This includes efforts to promote Indigenous knowledge and perspectives in areas such as environmental conservation, climate change adaptation, and social justice.
